So now I have a Logitech strapped to the display, covering up the old camera. Which is a huge shame because the quality of the webcam was quite good.

Plus another one: the webcam video is bizarrely laggy. I am now on an M1 Air and I still have all the same problems with the display I had with my previous Intel MacBook Pro. One of the buttons "helpfully" opens the Displays control panel for you. The app appears to do absolutely nothing. USB devices plugged into it mysteriously stop working.

Putting the Mac too close to the display would prevent wifi from working. My Mac would kernel panic when being plugged in or disconnected. 5k! But then I started noticing the problems. I foolishly shelled out several thousand dollars for a new LG Ultrafine 5k back in 2017 when I started my new job. Both are just locked to maximum and changing either is through the one button on the bottom. I don't use this button often, but it is annoying that I can't just use the brightness button on my keyboard to bring the brightness of the monitor down considering the monitor is just suposed to be displaying the mac exactly how it would look if I was just looking at the mac!!! same thing with volume. But you can't, you have to use the poorly designed one button on the bottom of the monitor. I was excited at first because I figured this app would make it possible for me to change volume and displays settings through the mac. Any other button in the app that you should be able to click on, doesn't work. All it does is open the displays page in settings. However, when I was messing around trying to find the ways to maximize the use of the screen I stumble upon probably the dumbest app ever to exist. Only one cord into my mac, which is just dandy. The USB-C connection charges my computer as well so I can have the lid closed and use a USB-ethernet on the back of the monitor for better internet.

I stumbled upon that monitor and it has quite a few functions which is awesome! I have my Mac, a Wii, and a PS3 all connect at once and just need to switch inputs to change.

It took 10 hours of support calls between Microsoft and LG before an LG tech finally admitted that it was a known fault, and they intended to patch it "hopefully within a month." That sucker got packed up and shipped back.ĭon't count on LG to support their products.I have an LG UHD Ultra Fine 4K monitor that I really wanted to use for my MacBook air to have a bigger screen. I just returned another monitor from them (the 49" 5K) because it didn't work. You can't even turn the sound up above 3 notches, or else it will blow you you. No customization, no color control, no sound control. The ambient light sensor was never turned on, for instance.įinally, this app just doesn't DO anything. Numerous features that were originally advertised never came to fruition. It wasn't perfect, but it could save time in certain situations. It used to have a feature to divy up windows across your screen. I guess we now know why Microsoft is back to making their old displays.įirst, LG has gutted this app. I was an early buyer of the LG UltraFine 5K, and I'm amazed at how little LG has done since the release. Nope! This has been disabled since the product was released. Another, big thanks for nothing to a company that had no intention of fully supporting these products.īTW, I guess LG is never going to enable the Ambient Light Sensor which they advertised it supported automatically adjusting brightness to room light conditions.

The second problem is that, even though the app never checks a valid URL for a firmware update, the app has now been coded by the developers to always create a directory whenever you open the app or have it check for an update. Thanks, LG for crippling the product even more since you've advertised this to be specifically developed to be fully compatible with Windows computers. The new problems with this app is that LG removed the Split Screen feature in the app. Not that it would matter, because customer support isn't even aware of what the existing version is and that at least two firmware updates have been released since the debut of the monitor. The app doesn't really check for a new version against any database to verify your currently installed version versus what they have available for the monitor.

First off, let me point out that the previous failure to actually check for a firmware update which was accessing a broken/closed URL is still present in 2.31.
